Wood Care Instructions
Wood care instructions from C.S.Robinson, with over 20 years' experience in the trade.
You will find differences in wood grain appearance, this is a natural occurring effect, created during the maturing process. As the tree grows, the older sections in the tree develop thicker and clearer grain patterns. Your furniture can be made from several cuttings of the same tree, creating contrast in the markings. Sapwood and random pigmentation are a common marking in real wood and are not to be seen as a defect. Knotting is the most common found markings; this is the natural “fingerprint” of wood products. These vary in size and frequency throughout the wood. This is why every piece of real wood furniture is unique, no two pieces will ever be quite the same, unlike mass produced veneered pieces.
If the surface has a natural wax finish, care should be taken to avoid any liquids being spilt on the surface as theywill mark the wood. If a spill should occur, wipe it up immediately using a dry cloth and re wax the area if required. Do not place cups, glasses or hot items directly onto the surface as this may cause permanent damage. Always usecoasters or protective mats. Avoid exposing the furniture to excessive heat, ie, radiators and direct sunlight through a window, as this may cause discolouration and or cracking.
For everyday cleaning use a dry cloth or duster, never a damp one. To maintain the natural beauty of your wood and to achieve a premium finish, apply natural beeswax polish Using a dry cloth and buff up to ensure any excess wax is removed. If you use a silicone based polish this will over a length of time strip the natural wax.
